I used to work near Red Hook, Brooklyn. I took Long Island Rail Road train to Atlantic Terminal then switched to N or R subway to 4th Av, then switched to F train to Smith St./9th Av. 4th Av station was the hell because I had to switch trains from underground to elevated platform. 130+ steps I recall. I was fit then. Anyway, I loved the el train. I could see rooftops of the neighborhood, brown stone row houses, blue stone sidewalks, drying laundry, graffiti, skylights of factories, Statue of Liberty in distance, and these old signs on scaffolding. I discovered some of my favorite signs have gone last a few years. F train goes to Coney Island. Even though I was on the F train almost everyday, I failed to go visit Nathan's Hot Dog joint or Cyclone. I don't know if I ever make it there before I die. This piece will be a forever reminder of my young ambitious days of my career in theatre.
