Series No. 3. Falling Japanese maple leaves over the water at night. I laid mitation silver leaf on the base to mimic Rimpa School screen paintings. Same as "Rebirth", the moon and silver light are the image of grief. I wanted to send off my father with the beauty of Japanese nature. My mother and I took a trip to Kyoto to visit the head temple of my family's Buddhist sect. I picked up these leaves there. Japanese see the beauty in rust and short lives in nature. I expressed my last conversation with my father with last bit of red in the maple leaves.
